If you are heading to a private school in Sharjah, you will be operating under the jurisdiction of the Sharjah Private Education Authority (SPEA).
Established to oversee the emirate's private schools, nurseries, and training institutes, SPEA strikes a distinct balance: it mirrors the stringent document requirements seen in Abu Dhabi, but processes approvals using a highly digitised system closer to Dubai's framework.
The teacher appointment and licensing process for Sharjah follows a specific protocol:
The Process: Step-by-Step
You cannot legally manage a classroom or have your name attached to a class timetable in Sharjah until SPEA has formally verified your credentials and issued an Initial Appointment Approval.
1.Document Portal Upload:Pre-Arrival.
Your school’s Human Resources team initiates the file on the SPEA Digital Portal. They upload your fully legalised home-country credentials along with your UAE MoFA attestation label.
2.SPEA Internal Vetting:2-5 Working Days.
SPEA reviews the submission to ensure your degree major strictly aligns with the specific curriculum and subject you are being hired to teach. They also cross-reference your global background checks.
3.Initial Appointment Notification:Issued Electronically.
Once vetted, SPEA issues an electronic appointment notification to the school. This grants the legal green light for the school to finalise your residency visa and local labour contract.
4.SEA Continuous Professional Development:Ongoing / First 2 Years.
Sharjah places a heavy focus on teacher training. New hires are often required to complete designated pedagogy and cultural modules through the Sharjah Education Academy (SEA) to maintain their active teaching status.
Critical Eligibility Rules for Sharjah
SPEA enforces exact structural baselines that your paperwork must meet to pass portal validation:
The Qualification Dual-Requirement: To teach a core academic subject, you must hold a specialised Bachelor’s degree in that field (e.g., a Bachelor of Science for a physics role). Crucially, SPEA also looks for a recognized professional teaching qualification (such as a PGCE, HDipEd, or state teaching license). If you only have a subject degree without formal teacher training, the portal may flag the file for a conditional or assistant role instead.
Ministry of Education (MoE) Equivalency Link: While SPEA grants your local permit to teach, your degree must also be submitted for a formal Equivalency Certificate from the UAE Ministry of Education. Your school's PRO (Public Relations Officer) will guide you through this portal link once your MoFA stamp is verified.
The Language Benchmarks: If you are teaching in an international curriculum (like the British or American systems) and are a non-native speaker, SPEA strictly enforces minimum language proficiency scores—typically an Academic IELTS score of 6.5 to 7.0 depending on whether you teach primary or secondary levels.
⚠️ Strict Policy on Educational Content & ConductSPEA maintains a zero-tolerance policy regarding the safety and cultural appropriateness of educational content. Under their latest regulatory circulars, any educator found introducing materials or resources that conflict with UAE national values, local laws, or cultural sensitivities will face immediate revocation of their SPEA teaching permit and potential administrative penalties.
